Management Team

professor dr. Johan Lukkien (scientific director) chairs the System Architecture and Networking Research group at Eindhoven University of Technology since 2002. He received M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Groningen University in the Netherlands. In 1991 he joined Eindhoven University after a two years leave at the California Institute of Technology. His research interests include the design and performance analysis of parallel and distributed systems. Until 2000 he was involved in large-scale simulations in physics and chemistry. Since 2000, his research focus has shifted to the application domain of networked resource-constrained embedded systems. Contributions of the SAN group are in the area of component-based middleware for resource-constrained devices, distributed coordination, Quality of Service in networked systems and schedulability analysis in real-time systems. He has been involved with the Software Technology PDEng degree program for many years, first as a facilitator for various courses and as a supervisor of final projects, and now as scientific director.

dr. Ad Aerts (general director) graduated from the University of Nijmegen in 1979 on a Ph.D. thesis in Elementary Particle Physics. He then went to the United States for postdoctoral positions at the National Laboratories of Los Alamos (1979 -1981) and Brookhaven (1981-1983). In 1983 he returned to Europe for a position as Senior Fellow in the Theoretical Physics Group at CERN, in Geneva, Switzerland. In 1985, he returned to the Netherlands to take up a position as assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of Eindhoven University of Technology. His research and teaching there were in the area of modeling and design of (adaptive) information systems, system integration, and database and web technology. He regularly spends some time at CERN with the CMS computing group as team leader of the Eindhoven-CERN collaboration. In March 2008, he joined the Software Technology PDEng degree program as general director.

Maggy de Wert (management assistant) graduated in Public Relations and Publicity, at Fontys University for Applied Sciences, in 1995. She started her career at Fontys as secretary, and left in 1998 as management assistant. After a round trip South East Asia she temporarily worked at the Fontys Academy for Journalism and Publicity, where she reorganized the administration for projects and exams. She started at the Eindhoven University of Technology in 2000 as management assistant at Cobra, a Top Research School. Since 2003 she is the management assistant of the Software Technology programme.
“What most attracts me in this job is working with young, talented trainees. They are unique in many ways, multi talented, and eager to learn and broaden their horizon. Plus the diversity of tasks make every day different.”
