Trainees 2006
| Maria-Alexandra Conţiu completed her B.Sc. studies (2000-2004) at the Department of Mathematics
and Computer Science of “Transilvania” University of Brasov, Romania. During her last university year
she received a mobility grant to Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands, where she was involved
in project on dynamic routing in the context of traffic crisis management. In 2005, after one year of
employment in a software developing company, she decided to continue her studies by enrolling to the
"Intelligent Systems" Master's studies offered by the "Babeş-Bolyai" University of
Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Her particular interest was focused on developing a framework for solving path-finding
problems using mobile agents. |

| Octavian Coţa studied Computer Science
(2001-2006) at the Faculty of Automation and Computer Science of the Technical
University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. During his studies, he participated in an
exchange program at Man-Machine Interaction Group of Delft University of
Technology, The Netherlands, where he prepared part of his final project. At
Delft, he contributed in the development of a traffic routing algorithm based
upon Artificial Life and Swarm Intelligence in the research project "Ant Based
Control". Octavian received the Engineer's degree in June 2006. From 2005 to
2006 he worked as a developer for a Romanian company, where he dealt mainly with
creditworthiness banking solutions and management software tools for industrial
processes. |  |
| In August 2006, Stephan Damen graduated and
received his M. Sc. degree in Computer Science from the Leiden Institute of
Advanced Computer Science of Leiden University. During his studies he has been
employed as a software engineer at BaseNet Internet Services for over four
years, developing web-based applications for different industries such as real
estate and laboratories. He wrote his Master's Thesis in an effort to explain
the Master's Thesis project, Integrated Web Searching, he developed for his
former employer to a broad audience using Agile Modelling. |  |
| Eve Khmelinskaya obtained her Master's
degree (1999 - 2004) at the Department of Software Engineering and Computer
Science at the Mathematics and Mechanics faculty of St. Petersburg State
University, Russia. She defended her final degree thesis in the field of Model
Based Approach being supervised by the USA patent holder in the field of Model
Based Application Development, Dr Len Erlikh. After her graduation she was
invited to join American-Russian outsourcing company as a software developer
where she gained her working experience in the commercial software and in
January 2006 obtained the "Presidents Awards" for her contribution
into the company development. During the 2.5 years of employment Ms.
Khmelinskaya mainly worked in the field of Data Quality Management and
implemented GUI and Business Logic of the client side for different
applications. |  |
| Mehmet Kovacioglu studied Medical Informatics at the Faculty
of medicine of the University of Amsterdam. In November of 2006 he concluded his
study with a research project on the pre-processing of images used in bio-informatics
("Application framework for the classification of CLSM images used in Active
Shape Models") at the LIACS (Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science,
also known as the department of Mathematics and Computer Science of University of
Leiden). In the same month of 2006 he received his M.Sc. degree in Medical Informatics.

| Hristina Moneva received her M.Sc. degree in
Computing Equipment and Technologies (1997-2001) at the Computing Equipment and
Automation Faculty of Technical University – Varna, Bulgaria (with
specialization in Computer Systems and Technologies). She continued her
education as a PhD student at Veliko Tarnovo University "St. Cyril and St.
Methodius", Bulgaria. She was working on "Intellectual systems for
searching and classifying data". From 2004 she is assistant professor in
the same university at Computer Systems and Technologies Department in the field
of Graphical Systems and Multimedia. During her PhD study, she participated for
three months at Socrates-Erasmus PhD students’ mobility program in
Hogeschool Rotterdam, the Netherlands where she was working on "Content
Management Systems (Research and Implementation with .Net Technology)"
project. As an assistant professor she participated in teacher’s mobility
in Spain and the Czech Republic as well. |  |
| Sreedevi Pillai studied Computer
Science(1993-1997) at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of
College of Engineering, Trivandrum India affiliated to the University of Kerala.
During her studies she did a 3 month internship at the Centre for Development of
Advanced Computing, Bangalore, India developing gaming software in Java. On
completion of her degree she joined Network Systems and Technologies (NeST),
Trivandrum, India doing software tool development for white box testing and
audio driver development for Yamaha. After two years she moved to Intel,
Bangalore where she worked till 2004 in the software section of Intel graphics.
There she worked on product engineering, validation and core development of
Intel graphics software drivers. |  |
| Mirela Popa received her B.Sc. degree in
Computer Science in 2005 from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
of "Transilvania" University in Brasov, Romania. She started her
Master’s thesis on merging topological maps in the Man-Machine Interaction
Group of Delft University of Technology in Delft, The Netherlands and she
received her M.Sc. degree in Computer Science in 2006 from "Transilvania"
University. From 2005 until 2006 she worked as a junior lecturer inside the
Department of Theoretical Computer Science of "Transilvania"
University of Brasov. |  |
| Imran Sabir studied computer science
(1998-2002) at Hamdard University, Karachi, Pakistan and received his BCS
(honors) degree with the specialization in system analysis and design.
Afterwards he moved to Aachen University of Technology, Germany. From 2002
until 2003, he worked as graduate research assistant for the departments of
Information Systems and Industrial Engineering. He participated in number of
research projects funded by European Union in the fields of Requirement
Engineering, Data Mining, Data Exploration and Semantic Web. In 2003, he joined
the Ericsson Euro Lab for six months where he worked on the project of "Reliable
Multicast on Dynamic Radio Networks". In 2004, he moved to Fraunhofer FIT,
Germany for his Master's thesis "Information Brokering in Distributed
Knowledge Pools" and later worked on the project "Advance Learning
Systems". In 2005, he received his M.Sc. degree in Software Systems
Engineering from Aachen University of Technology, Germany. |  |
| Eugen Schindler studied (and is still
studying) Computer Science (2000-2006) at the Department of Mathematics and
Computer Science of Eindhoven University of Technology. During his studies, he
participated in a number of projects. He started with the
DamMentor software
engineering project, which involved creating an online draughts teaching
system for the KNDB (Royal Dutch Draughts Association). For his internship, he
added a voice interface to the
Personal
Space Station. The internship was concluded with a usability study on
multimodal user interfaces, resulting in writing the workshop paper "Evaluation
of Input Modalities for Interaction Tasks Supporting 3D Object Manipulation".
Eugen's Master's project is titled "Realtime Indexation of Meeting
Recordings" and has been performed at the Department of Industrial
Design of the Eindhoven University of Technology. The project's main goal is to
make a usability study on indexing systems for recorded meetings in which the
attendees have control over the indexation process. |  |
| Dorieke Schipper received her M.Sc. degree
in Computer Science in 2006 from Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science
of Leiden University, the Netherlands. She specialized in Bioinformatics and
concluded her studies by means of a research project on "A robust algorithm
for Transformation Estimation and Applications", especially concerning
applications with CLSM visualizations of gene expression patterns in
developmental biology. |  |
| Bo Wang received her B.Sc. degree in
Computer Science and Technology in 2004 from Harbin Engineering University in
China. Her Bachelor's thesis was about developing assistant software for English
words remembrance. Afterwards she studied Computer Science (2004-2006) at the
Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of Delft University of
Technology. She did her final project on Graphical User Interface for model
checkers and received her M.Sc. degree in Computer Science in 2006. |  |
| Mingjian Xu studied Computer Science
(2000-2005) at the Faculty of Sciences of Catholic University of Leuven. He
concluded his studies by means of a research project on "efficient
calculation of a credit derivative". In 2005, he received his M.Sc. degree
in Computer Science. He studied Artificial Intelligence (2005-2006) at the
Faculty of Engineering of Catholic University of Leuven. His final research
project was "Default Prediction for SME by LS-SVM". In 2006, He
received his M.Sc. degree in Artificial Intelligence. |
