Willem van de Biggelaar (Process Vision) received his bachelor’s
degree in Electronics in 1985 and started working as a software developer. During
the first 9 years of his career, he has worked in projects for Océ vd Grinten, Organon
Technica, Philips Medical Systems and Draeger and ended up as project / team leader.
In 1997 he switched towards the quality assurance and process improvement role in
multi-disciplinary projects for companies such as ASML, Philips Consumer Electronics,
Philips Medical Systems and Centric TSolve. From 2001 onwards he started his own company
Process Vision and continued to work as regulatory and quality assurance / process
improvement manager |

| Con Bracke is at present test architect at Philips Research Eindhoven. He has 12 year experience as a software developer on real-time embedded systems. He started in 1997 to specialize in (embedded) software testing and is ISEB practitioner in software testing. Con has worked on projects for the consumer market, healthcare, and high reliability and high availability systems. In addition, he provides consultancy and training on software testing. |

| Jac Goorden After graduating at Eindhoven University of Technology in Applied Mathematics and Computing Science, he has worked for companies like Philips and IBM for 15 years, before his current position as managing consultant of Bicore. During his career, he has been a designer, manager, and a consultant and trainer in R&D environments of various high-tech companies (including DAF Trucks, Océ, KPN, and Philips), as well as a guest teacher in commercial training, MBA programs and university post-graduate training programs. His interests are in innovation strategy, its management processes, and the business aspects of innovation. He was a member of EIRMA working group 62 that researches the concept of “R&D effectiveness”. In his current position at Bicore, he focuses on practical support for innovation management and new business development. His work on portfolio management of innovation has led to the development of a web-based innovation portfolio application, that Bicore is now marketing. |

Angelo Hulshout (Delphino Consultancy) is a systems architect
with experience in various domains. He started working at Philips Research as a
software engineer in 1995, working on digital broadcast prototypes and later on
also early Voice-over-IP solutions. From 2000-2008 he worked at ICT
Automatisering, involved in various projects as a contracted architect and
requirements analyst, trainer and architecture assessor. Since 2008, he works as
an independent consultant, architect and trainer in the area of systems
architecture and software engineering. |

| Koen Holtman is an embedded systems architect at Philips Applied Technologies. His work includes technology tracking and cost optimization for wireless embedded systems. He was a trainee in the OOTI programme in 1995-1997. He received a Ph.D. in Software Design from Eindhoven University of Technology, for work performed at CERN, Switzerland. He has worked extensively on standards. He participated in the IETF HTTP standardization working group from 1995-2000, and acted as the principal author of 4 RFCs. He was a Philips representative in the Blu-ray Disc association from 2004-2007 – as part of his work on Blu-ray he negotiated several key compromises between movie industry and player manufacturers. |

Ton Kostelijk (Philips Applied Technologies) Ton Kostelijk received his M.Sc. degree in
Physics from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, based on his work on experimental solid state physics with IT.
From 1985 until 1995 he worked at Philips Research Laboratories in the area of Computer Aided Design for
VLSI Design. This work was the basis of his PhD degree. From 1995 until 1999 he worked at Philips Advanced
Systems and Applications Laboratories as a Chief Software Architect for the Digital Receivers program.
Since 1999 he has been working for Philips Digital Systems Laboratories as a System Architect. He is
currently involved in System Performance Feasibility as well as coaching of architects and teaching at
Philips CTT, Embedded Systems Institute and SAI/Software Technology. |

| Johan Lukkien received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mathematics from Groningen University. In 1991 he received his PhD (Computing Science) at Groningen University for his work on Parallel Program Design and Generalized Weakest Preconditions. From 2000 until 2002 he worked at the Eindhoven Embedded Systems Institute. And since 2002 he is an associate professor and head a.i. on the System Architecture and Networking group at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. He has been active in the area of parallel, largescale computing, in particular in the simulation of catalysts. His current interests concern real-time distributed systems and computer networks with a particular focus on interoperability issues and automatic cooperation. Generally he values a close connection between research and application, for example, through the development of prototype systems and through projects with industry. He is currently involved in the following projects: FABRIC (5th framework IST), Internet-enabled monitoring and control of embedded systems (PROGRESS), Quality of Service for in-home digital networks (PROGRESS), Space4U (ITEA) and CANDELA (ITEA). |

Gerrit Muller (ESI / Buskerud University College) received his Master
degree in Physics from the University of Amsterdam in 1979. He worked from 1980 until 1997 at Philips Medical
Systems as system architect. From 1997 to 1999 he was manager System Engineering at ASML. From 1999 - 2002
he worked at Philips Research. Since 2003 he is working as senior research fellow at ESI (Embedded Systems
Institute). In June 2004 he received his doctorate. The main focus of his work at ESI is to work on System
Architecture methods and to enable education of new System Architects. Special areas of interest are:
• Ways to cope with the exponential growth of size and complexity of systems. Examples of methods to address the growing complexity are product lines and composable architectures. • The human aspects of systems architecting (which in itself is a crucial factor in coping with the above mentioned growth). Kees van Overveld (Coaching Creative Processes) obtained his MSc and PhD
degree in physics at Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. In 1985, he joined the computing science department
of the university’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science as a university lecturer; since 1990 as
associate professor. From 1989 to 1998 he was head of the Computer Graphics group. From November 1996 to June
1998 he was part-time employed as a Senior Researcher at Philips Research Laboratories; further, he still held
the position of associate professor at Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. In June 1998 he founded ‘Van Overveld
Coaching’, a consultancy company. In this company he has worked on a regular basis for Philips Research
Laboratories (until 2004), the University of Calgary (Canada) and the University of Magdeburg (Germany). In
May 2000 he left the Computer Science department and changed his academic affiliation to the Stan Ackermans
Institute at Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. In 2002, he joined the university’s Faculty of Industrial
Design (ID). |

Onno van Roosmalen, a Dutch born physics graduate from the University of
Nijmegen, started his scientific career as a theoretical nuclear physicist at the Dutch cyclotron facility
(KVI) of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. After a postdoctoral position at the California
Institute of Technology (1982-1984) he was assistant professor in Nuclear Physics at Yale University
(1984-1987). In 1987 he returned to his homeland and assumed a position as an assistant professor in Computer
Science at the Eindhoven University of Technology. His research and teaching there were in the area of
object-oriented techniques for real-time systems. From 1999 until 2003 he worked for the (Eindhoven) Embedded
Systems Institute of the Eindhoven University were he set up education programs for local companies in the
area of embedded systems architecting. Since the year 2000 he reduced his employment at the university and
currently he works mainly as a private consultant for local companies. His activities are training modern
software-development techniques to real-time-software engineers. |

| Maarten Steinbuch is full professor in Systems & Control. He received the M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, in 1984. From 1984 until 1987 he was a research assistant at Delft University of Technology and KEMA (Power Industry Research Institute), Arnhem, The Netherlands. In 1989 he received the Ph.D. degree from Delft University of Technology on the subject of Modeling and Control of Wind Energy Conversion Systems. From 1987-1998 he was with Philips Research Laboratories, Eindhoven as a Member of the Scientific Staff, working on modeling and control of mechatronic applications. From 1998-1999 he was manager of the Dynamics and Control group at Philips Center for Manufacturing Technology. Since 1999 he is full professor of the Control Systems Technology group of the Mechanical Engineering Department of Eindhoven University of Technology. His research interests are modeling and control of motion systems. He was an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology (1993-1997), of IFAC Control Engineering Practice (1994-1996), and of IEEE Control Systems Magazine (1999-2002). He is currently editor-at-large of the European Journal of Control. |

Strother, Ph.D., is Professor of Applied Linguistics and Chair of the graduate program in Technical and Professional Communication at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. She has authored over 60 publications, including five books and a number of book chapters, as well as presented at numerous international conferences. |

Hans Thelosen (NXP Semiconductors) studied Electronics
and Computer Science in Venlo and received his Bachelors degree in 1986. Hans moved
from programmer to manager professional services leader at consultancy firms. He worked
in several software application development projects at for example: ASML, Philips, Océ
Technologies, ECT, Ingenieursbureau NS, Shell and Van Rietschoten & Houwens. Since 2003
Hans has joined Philips Semiconductors and co-ordinates configuration management in a
multi-site environment. |

| Harold Weffers received his M.Sc.
degree in Computer Science in 1993 from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of
Eindhoven University of Technology. In 1995, he received his PDEng degree from the university's Stan
Ackermans Institute. After a short officer's training at the Dutch Royal Naval
College, from 1995 until 1996 he worked at the Hydrographic Office of the Royal
Netherlands Navy. From 1996 until 1998 he worked for Philips TASS at Philips
Media Systems, Philips Advanced Systems and Applications Laboratories, and
Philips Medical Systems. From 1998 until 2008 he held the position of program
manager and operational manager of the doctorate-level engineering degree
programme on Software Technology. Since March 2008 he is business director of
the 3TU.NIRICT Research Laboratories at Eindhoven University of Technology and in
that position he is also affiliated with the Software Technology programme as
project management trainer. |

| Peter Zomer studied Industrial and Organisational Psychology. He works as a professional management trainer and coach in all kinds of organizations; in 2005, he established the firm Zomer & Cornelissen, which is dedicated to organization development. Peter is specialized in team coaching, i.e. helping teams develop themselves toward higher effectiveness. In 2006, he finished his Ph.D. thesis on the design of the Team Confrontation Method, a practical method for team coaching. |
